Project/archive I'm Considering...

Posted by Jade-Everstone - May 17th, 2021

EDIT 5/20/21: Yeah, I think I'm not gonna go through with this (at least right now). Tried compiling earlier this week and I can't think of a good way to format something like this. I'll worry about backing up my stuff later when I have a better plan or means of hosting stuff

Over the past few years with websites constantly changing (eg: YT's ToS changes, DA eclipse, sites shutting down) I've been thinking a lot about how I'm gonna archive my works going forward.

DeviantArt right now is my biggest 'archive' of my stuff because it's the site I've been on the longest. And even though my shit from when I was 13-15 isn't too great I still think it's neato to flip through (kinda like a 'see how far I've come' thing) and I still want to keep them around in some form. Problem is with the current shifting & unstable nature of websites these days I can't trust DeviantArt will be a site I use forever. Maybe I'll abandon it, have to scrub it, or the site gets plugged. Who knows?

So what I'm considering doing is compiling my older works into PDFs. That way I can have an archive that I can have up for download (or display) on whatever site I land on. For an example of how I'm formatting it I'll link my 2017 unreleased works. I made this back in 2018 to show off older sketches and I think it's still fun to flip through even if it's old stuff

I'm still working out how I'm gonna format and share it though (especially bc of all the different file sizes). The only things I know rn is I'm not featuring art of other people's OCs (eg: artfight pics, gift art, trades) mostly because I'm not sure if everyone I've done art for is ok with me featuring their characters in a portfolio & I don't think i've made any statement abt using OC art in a portfolio yet? ( TL:DR not featuring others' OCs just to be safe & keep it fair for everyone)
